23/11/07 - start

Welcome fellow mappers and tce lovers.

I have just started with a new mapping project, one wich I wish/intend to finish.

Me and mehrang were brainstorming in class and came up with something totally original and of which I had shown already I could make wonderfull things. Underground caves. With that we started, continuing on to mines, for that would make making the tunnels less boring far easier.
So mines it is! We started thinking of some things there would be:
-tunnels(dhu)
-tracks and carts
-cavern with an elevator for stone/ore
-an elevator for humans
-a cavern with some sort of building and some materials for fortification of the tunnels.

-> I came up with this scetch

Here you see that I will be making 3 lvls, winding up and down.(top=yellow, then blue, grey and finally brown; I will refer to them as lvls1,2,3 and 4 later on)
There will be some sidepassages, of which the most important ones are already showed in green.
The purple is where the cargo elevator will be. with a jump-down ability trough the hole. (I will refer to this as 'the pit')
Tracks will be double, single and not there.
The spawns are located on the upper part of the pit on lvl2 (spawn A)and in the grey chamber on lvl3 between the 2 sidepassages in green(spawn B).

So the same evening I started working on something light and fun: my tracks and carts. I made them in seperate files, easy to import. I was rather happy about the result.

A couple of days later I refreched my tunnel building abilities and tried some random rock formations.

Yesterday I then started on a part of the tunnels.(lvl3, between spawn B and the bottom of the pit)
The first difficulty was lining out the tracks to make a nice and realistic turn of 135°. I had luckily done this already when I made the tracks. Still, lining them up perfectly was not easy.
Secondly, making the bend in the tunnel itself presents a series of difficulties. I overcame them and finished my tunnel by adding the tracks, some carts for cover and chokepoints and some wooden beams. Later on lights will be added, but this is something I will add in whole my map at once.
I took some quick screens in GTK and went to bed(at 2AM pff)
